Two Dirty Hippies

I'm working on a comic and here are some concept illustrations! It's called "Two Dirty Hippies."

It's about a hippie named "Tambourine" (not her real name) who's kind of annoying so her friends ditch her in the woods after tricking her into chaining herself to a tree in protest. She is then saved by a mysterious, large and hairy fellow hippie and she falls head over heals.

But he's not a hippie at all ; he's the elusive sasquatch.

So here's Tambourine and Sasquatch:

Gauges the Lab Rat

Had to make a character for a character design project and I love the way it turned out so I think I'll add her to the Angie and Dingle Berry universe!

This is Gauges the Lab Rat:

Science found it necessary to attach a human ear to her back. But rather than letting her deformity define her, she turned lemons into lemonade and got some sweet gauges and piercings.

Revamped some old characters I've had in my head for oh....3 years now? Yeah that sounds about right...

Anyway, this is Angora "Angie" Fitzpatrick. She is a sphinx or hairless cat.

She is a little manic and may or may not have a few insecurities about her hairless state.

And this is her mellow counterpart and roomie, Dingle Berry Hound.

He may or may not sell drugs.

And here's another drawing of Angie with some nationalistic pride.

(At least Animal Planet told me sphinx cats were Canadian.)

Despicably Adorable

So I saw Despicable Me yesterday afternoon - it's so freakin' adorable and so much fun! I laughed really hard at certain parts and almost cried at others. Everything a good animated picture should be.

So here's a little bit of fan-art of Gru and his girls:

One Year Down, 3 More to Go!

So, I've got one year of art school under my belt! So while we wait for the next year to begin, lets take a gander at some of my last work of the semester!

Aaaand here's my LCD (light color and design) final. It was supposed to be a "modernist" painting, but I just drew a bunch of cartoon elephants. My instructor gave me an A anyway :p

And now I leave you with my pop art piece for LCD. What we had to do was cut out pictures from various magazines and then paint a picture based on the collage. I made none of these images up (except for the colored blobs.) Everything else comes from various comics and magazines - even the speech bubbles.

My Work Thus Far at Pratt MWP

Well the reason I've found the time to update this here blog is that I'm bored out of my mind while waiting for the second semester at Pratt MWP to start. And I have A LOT to look forward to next semester;

For 1, my roommate's moving out and I get the single to myself free of charge. That means, I get my own bathroom, my own kitchen (with my own fridge and my own microwave), my own 12x14 living room AND my own bedroom all to my self and I don't have to pay.

For 2, I get to make art, hang out with my friends and actually have something TO DO! As great as break has been, it's been a month and I'm out of stuff to do.

So, while I wait for second semester to start, here's a quick little montage of what I did last semester (just pretend that the power ballad of your choice is playing in the background) :

New Year, New Decade, New Posts!

Well folks, look who's updating her blog! And it only took...6 months. Yeesh...

And as you may have noticed, I've deleted quite a few of my old posts. That's because either it's been like a year since I posted any art on this here blog, and looking at some of my old art makes me throw up in my mouth a little. God only knows what it does to my readers mouths...

SO yes - I'm going to give the "regularly updating a blog" thing another fair shot.

And here's what to expect from this blog from now on:

1) Fanart. I know, it's nerdy...but it's good practice and hella fun! Most of it will be Venture Brothers fanart, because it's currently the best god damn show on television.

2) Art Projects. One of the reasons I haven't updated this blog in so long is I've recently entered the scary world of college. And by scary I mean fucking amazing. I LOVE Pratt MWP. I love making art all week long and I love the people there! And now that I'm settled, I will share that love with you.

3) Original cartoons. Character designs, doodle dumps and the like. I can always use feedback :)

4) Stuff you probably don't give a shit about - As in, pictures of me and my friends wearing fake mustaches in public or stories about my brother and I acting like immature jerks in public. But hey, I have some cute friends so maybe you'll be able to man out those dumb posts.

Be on the look out for all of this stuff soon!

Well, I'm officially DONE with high school for ever. Hooray, hooray.

But I want to talk about the student film I made in high school today. Because I just figured how to get them online for all of you to see! :D

Both of these films were made with my hetero-life mate Meg ~SuperSimba and her actual life mate Fred ~Rapscallionvawn

Here's the first film we ever made. We know there are a lot of mistakes, but we learned so much by doing and we're damn proud of this film anyway. So don't be too much of a Negative Nancy.

Rock, Rock, Rock, Rock, Rock 'N Roll High School!

^ Remember my character, Betsy?

Well, after reading John K's posts about what makes characters dynamic and human, I have a bit more to say about her:

Betsy is the captain of the dance squad (which is another word for B-string cheerleading squad.) She's happy with her position on the cheerleading pyramid, however...or she just doesn't notice. Betsy is loud, impulsive, emotional and a lot of fun. She loves rock and roll music and parties, because they share those same qualities with her.

Betsy also has a friend now. Her names Kait. And here she is:

And here's a bit on Kait:

Kait is one of them artsy-fartsy types, but not so much so that her nose is stuck in the air. While she does like to talk about boys and gossip, her love for art sets her apart from Betsy and other teenage girls. Kait has a not-so closeted interest in dark/spooky/deep junk (snakes, skulls and heavy eyeliner) and incorporates that into her art work. She much more shy (and much more quiet) than Betsy. But Kait loves her rambunctious friend so she tags along for the ride and often catches whatever Betsy's got that makes her so rowdy.

Kait's look and personality is based off of three, specific people I know in my advanced art class. She is especially based off of one particular girl who's name is, surprise surprise, Katie.

Betsy is loosely inspired by...at least seven girls I know. A lot of what she is comes straight from my imagination and my observations of my peers.

For these reasons, Kait's character feels a lot more developed (to me, at least) than Betsy's character. Needless to say, I'm still working on Betsy. I just found it interesting how that worked out and wanted to share.

Teenage Wasteland

Through doodling random girls I've spotted at school, I eventually created a character. This, ladies and germs, is that character:

EDIT: I've finally picked a name for her! It's Betsy (after all, she's partially based off a girl in my school with the same name.)

Anyway, this character spawned my newest cartoon concept. It's a rather simple one, but I like it none the less; ditzy high school girls.

Because really, I don't know about you, but I'm sick of the entertainment biz glorifying teens! Us teens are not sex-pots! We're stupid, ugly and funny as hell! There's a lot of comedic value in real life teens that I never see translated to the media, because the media is only interested in the drama and the sex. And this, is why shit like 6teen and High School Musical happens...>:[

So, I've decided to make it my life mission to make a cartoon/comic about teenage girls as I see them...silly as hell!

My Accidental Safari Trip

Okay, so Meg and I are celebrating 24 Hour Comic Day at a local (not really) comic book shop and we decide to take a break and go grab lunch at a near by pizza place called Pudgies. Here's where our story begins.

You see, we discovered that Pudgie's isn't your average greasy pizza parlor; it's got exotic road kill up the WAZOO! I shit thee not! There were gazelle and moose and antelope heads as far as the eye could see! But our favorite find was a lion. A FUCKING LION! A real live, dead lion! Mane and all!

But after Meg and I got over the crippling fear that the lion would magically come to life and eat us, we couldn't pass up playing with the damn thing:

I'd love to do a web comic or possibly a cartoon with these two (with their permission, of coarse.) They're just the epitome of a dynamic cartoon duo. XD
